Slate Roofs

Slate Roof on Private College

Close Up of Slate Roof
Everyone has heard the saying “they don’t build ‘em like they used to.” Well that isn’t true when talking about slate roofs. GSM continues to install them today just as Fred Gooding installed them some 60 years ago. Our craftsmen excel at installing slate on historical buildings, educational facilities and homes. The two key ingredients to a successful slate roof project are the contractor and the slate. Just because a roofing contractor can install shingles doesn’t mean they know the intricacies of installing this natural product. The often-overlooked aspect is selecting the correct quarry, and knowing which produces the longest-lasting slate. When these two conditions are met, your slate roof will be able to be enjoyed for generations.
We’ll work with you to design the thickness, color and look of your new slate roof. We can also match an existing slate roof pattern or work off of an old photograph to recreate a design from the past. Our team has a passion for slate, and that’s one of the reasons we were selected to help write the updated slate installation manual for the National Slate Association.
