Built-Up Roofs

Modified Bitumen Roof

Large Built Up Roof
When Fred Gooding started this business in 1946, there was only one choice for low-sloped roofs, and that was the built-up roof (BUR). Just like the Ford Model T came in any color as long as you wanted black, flat roofs came in any type as long as you wanted built-up. Nowadays, BURs come hot-mopped or cold-applied, gravel-surfaced or smooth-coated, traditional or modified. The one constant throughout the years – and the greatest aspect of this roof system – is a word that makes every building owner sleep a little easier … redundancy. Redundancy comes from the fact that these roofs are “built up” with several layers of plys. Each additional layer or ply provides protection if a previous layer gets punctured or starts to break down. While not as popular as it once was, this time-tested and durable roof is still very viable today.
