Job Summary:  The Mission of this role is to safely fabricate all sheet metal needed for GSM Roofing projects.  Work in cooperation with the GSM superintendents, field foreman, procurement and support staff as necessary to plan and execute projects proactively. Perform work in a way that aligns with GSM operating values including cooperation, flexibility, respect for team members & customers and always exhibit extreme ownership for GSM equipment and property.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review shop drawings/blueprints and fabricate sheet metal
  • Assign work to shop employees when required
  • Examine and inspect tools and shop conditions to verify safety requirements
  • Perform preventive maintenance functions on shop equipment
  • Track shop inventory and request materials orders through purchasing department
  • Inspect work to ensure high quality and accuracy
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods and equipment performance to increase efficiency and safety
  • Confer with superintendent to ensure production and personnel issues are resolved
  • Record information – such as personnel, production and inventory – on specified forms and reports
  • Train workers in fabrication methods and operation of equipment

The employee is also expected to perform such other duties and functions as required from time to time.


  • High school education plus 2 years of trade school and 5 years of progressive experience OR equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in the fabrication of sheet metal/roofing
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations
  • Effective time-management skills, self-motivation and the ability to work independently without supervision
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach others how to perform given tasks
  • Ability to motivate, develop and supervise other workers
  • Ability to use equipment, facilities and materials appropriately and cost-effectively
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem solving as it pertains to work progress
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings
  • Ability to climb, stoop and lift materials and equipment of at least 50 pounds
  • Knowledge of sheet metal equipment including CNC tools
  • Sheet metal layout skills
  • Experience with managing inventory
