The membranes come in white or black, glued or heat-welded, adhered or mechanically attached and with warranties ranging from 5-30 years – and that could all be from the same manufacturer. Throw in high traffic rooftop units, being insured by factory mutual, or increased wind zones, and it’s no wonder our customers feel like they are drowning in options. Although single ply membranes have become the “standard” for low slope roofing, there are benefits and drawbacks to EPDM (rubber), TPO and PVC that people need to be aware of.
